eat your colors

Ask your child to eat five or more fruits and vegetables each day. At the end of the day, count how many colors she ate!

Learn about Sometime and Anytime Foods!

"Anytime" foods are foods we can eat every day, like fruits and veggies, whole grains, lean meats and lowfat yogurt. Drink water or lowfat milk with these.

"Sometime" foods are foods we should only eat once in a while, like cookies, candy, chips, and sodas. They are high in sugar, fat or salt.

Crunch your way to good health!

Have your own taste test or play a crunch game. Dunk different vegetables into lowfat dips to see what your child likes best. Crunch different kinds of raw vegetables. The loudest crunch wins!

Make meals an adventure! Have your child plan the menu for one family meal. Go shopping together. Then, let your child help make and serve the meal. After the meal, ask your child what he learned about food.

Keep moving!

Make daily routines fun. Hop to the car, subway, or bus; skip to the store; or dance while cleaning.

Move like an animal!

Hop like a frog, fly like a bird, or waddle like a penguin.

Move to the music!

Make dance time a family routine. Ask your child to work with family and friends to make up new dance steps to their favorite music. Then have them put on a dance show for you!

Make time for quiet time!

Sit down with your child in a comfortable place to relax. Slow down your heartbeats by taking deep, long breaths. Cuddle up and read a book or sing a song. See how refreshed your bodies feel after a nice, relaxing break.
